I want to build a generator like a homopolar magnetic generator, that can make some extra power (maybe not enough to power a whole house but to supplement). I don't want to be directed to a search engine, i've tried that, and i'm not looking to buy an ebook from a site with 'testimonials' and 'reduced prices' and all that gimmicky stuff, just actual plans for a generator. Anyone know where?

It has the calculation and the basic diagrams to make a few. There will be nothing you could power you house or supplement you power with that wouldn't be done cheaper with a standard generator.

I want to run my petrol electric generator from Natural gas to minimize fuel cost.

This is a great idea, and allows co-generation.

Cheap generators don't generally last long. Nice natural gas units cost thousands of dollars.

Co-generation is using the heat from the generator to do other tasks, like heating your home and/or hot water, giving great overall efficiencies.

I think eventually this will be commonly done, but not very economical right now.

Short term, Numbat is correct that fixing the carb should be enough to run the generator on natural gas. Google for other sources on natural gas in internal combustion engines for more info.

By the way, by code you cannot just hook the generator up to your house wiring. You have to get and wire in "approved isolation means" or a manual transfer switch to assure that you do not send power out to the power company, for safety reasons. You may also be required to notify your power company, which may require a seperate meter if you try to sell power back to them.

It is a taylor dunn electric utility vehicle and I want to bypass the lead-acid batteries and just power the lectric motor from something like a 1000 watt gas generator. Is this doable? if so, how may I go about doing it?

doubt if it's practical

An alternative energy resource, gaining much market share, is solar power. It is the one that is most well known every day. This involves the manufacturing of solar cells which gather and focus the sun's energy, and translate it into electricity. In some, hot water can be produced from the sun. As with wind energy, solar energy creates absolutely zero pollution.

One of these renewable energy resources is solar energy. Solar PV cells continue to be manufactured that are often more energy efficient and less costly than previous models from a few years ago. Solar energy plants have been developed in in many nations. They are now more strategically placed in order to improve the national electricity grid. Over time, they are not causing environmental issues as previous placement of solar panels may have caused.

The following sections provide a summary overview of many other renewable energy sources being researched, developed, and deployed throughout the world.

Ocean current energy is discussed by governments and investors as having untapped energy generating potential. A ocean electricity generator in Europe has been in operation for a long time. It is thought to be a great accomplishment. The Irish and Scots are also running pilot facilities.

Hydroelectric power has been with us for a while. At current hydro dams, it is a clean generator of electricity. Because water and gravity is used, it is more effecient than a grid powered by natural gas. There are restrictions to the availability of the right places to set up a large dam. Many river based, or small and localized, hydro generators where created in recently due to this limitation.

Geothermal energy is extremely abundant. Since it lies directly beneath us, we only need drill just a few miles below the earth's surface to find huge amounts of energy. This energy is produced by the heating of water, trapped in layers of rock, through the earth's hot molten core. The water turns to steam, which is then used to drive turbines that generate electricity. Great amounts of research and development should be put into geothermal energy tapping.

Biodiesel energy is created out of the oils contained in plants. Most commonly, the retail stockpiles of bio-diesel have been created using rapeseed and sunflower oils. At the time of this writing, biodiesel is typically produced by agricultural corporations or those who want to experiment with renewable energy. Venture interest from companies across the World is on the rise. It burns much better than fossil fuel diesel.

Another renewable energy resource is solar generated electricity. Solar PV cells continue to be manufactured that are often more energy efficient and less costly than previous models from a few years ago. This involves the manufacturing of solar panels which gather and focus the sun's energy, and translate it into electricity. In other cases, hot water can be produced from the sun. As with wind energy, solar energy creates absolutely zero pollution.

Can anyone tell me what my generator is worth?

I have a KOLHER nat. gas generator. it is hooked to my house and can run 2 AC units + the whole house. i beleve it is a RG17 i think? it has less than 200 hrs on it.

Would need to know how many Kilowatts, but I suspect around 12KUsd. I know where there is a similar one for that price.

If natural gas is cheap enough compared to the cost of electricity, it might be much cheaper to generate your home electricity requirements with a natural gas motor/electric generator. I'm sure the gas companies would LOVE it if everyone did this! And, if everyone stopped buying electricity because this worked, the electric companies would have to lower their prices to compete!

I recently made a few rough calculations and figured it would be cheaper but the payback would be lengthy due to the investment.

Natural gas generators are readily available but are going to cost $4-5k to be big enough for the whole house, even then you have to consider where you live and ac demand since this uses alot of power, although natural gas powered ac is available.

Even at my local rates of 4:1 gas versus electric, it was going to be a long payback.

Gas prices have risen since the "dash for gas" by generation companies eager for a quick buck on de-nationalization.

The name on the gas tank is Yamada. But I have seen others that are identicle with the name buffalo tool. Its made in China. It runs fine I just need a new gas shut off valve!Or gaskets to repair the one I have

Check with a local machine repair shop. They'll have charts for repair parts cross-referenced with different manufacturers.
