What’s the best type of portable generator?
I want to charge a couple of deep cycle batteries to run a computer and a video projector during burning man. What size generator should I get?
You need to calculate your electrical load first. What is the power consumption of the video projector and the computer? It may be safe to assume you want something very quiet to not bother others nearby.
A 2kW portable generator would likely be adequate and give you a little extra for lighting. Honda makes very quiet generators. Kipor (Chinese knockoff) also makes a clone of Honda’s equipment. Lower cost, but also lower quality, etc. Both of these also have a DC output for charging batteries. It is not an automatic battery charger, so you have to monitor manually to prevent overcharging.
