Would a 1200 watt generator be enough to power a 1000 watt light for about 3 hours at a time?

Basically a few friends and I are going to buy a generator and a work light so that we can play basketball at this school near our house whenever we want. We expect to play about 3 to 4 hours at a time, and are wondering if the generator I listed would be enough to power the work light for that amount of time. If not, then I guess we would get another backup generator.
Anyway, any other solutions for portable lighting for a playground basketball game would be greatly appreciated.

One 1200 VA generator can deliver 1020 watt load at 0.85 power factor.Generally the luminares available in market do have arrangements for power factor improvement and they used to keep the power factor of 0.85. Regarding hours, there is no constraint for running hours. Only you have to pour the fuel.Your 3-4 hours is very small period and the generator will get enough cooling time. Your perday fuel consumption (1000W for 4 hours) shall be about 1.25 ltrs diesel.
You can go ahead with your proposal.

It will do 950 watts not 1000. Depending on how hot it is where you are you could push it another 50watts.
My guess is it will not run for 3 hours without adding fuel as it will only run for 4.7 at half load you will be running it at full load.
Over all it will work but might not have the light you really need.
Might think about buying 3, 250-watt fluorescent bulbs. There not cheap at 60 bucks each but this will give you over 3000 watts worth of light.
If you go the cheaper way i would buy more than one light even at a small wattage so you can spread them around.
I would guess you would need one pointed at the backboard and two for the ground.
Might be a good idea to just buy the lights and test them out in your front yard make sure they have the power before you buy the generator .
